What is actually stacked inside

A multi-layer label is not a sticker with a flap. It is a laminate, and every ply has a job — print surface, hinge, barrier, adhesive pattern, release. Get one wrong and the label delaminates on the filling line or in the field.

Overlaminate 01

Overlaminate

Takes the abrasion, the alcohol wipe and the UV so the print underneath does not.

What goes wrong

Skipping it on a peel-and-reveal means the top ply scuffs white along the fold after two openings.

Top ply — print face

The face everyone sees on shelf. Carries the brand artwork, the barcode and the peel prompt.

What goes wrong

A clear top ply over a printed lower ply needs a white opaque block, or the lower panel ghosts through.

Hinge & pattern adhesive 03

Hinge & pattern adhesive

The engineered part. A deadened stripe holds the fold shut; the rest of the panel stays free so it lifts cleanly and re-closes.

What goes wrong

Get the deadening width wrong and the label either will not stay closed on the pallet, or will not open at the counter.

What goes wrong

Bible paper folds to more panels but tears if the pack goes into a chilled cabinet — switch to synthetic there.

Base ply & permanent adhesive 05

Base ply & permanent adhesive

The part that stays married to the container for the product's whole life, through condensation, freezer and courier abrasion.

General-purpose acrylic, wet-strength permanent, deep-freeze, removable

What goes wrong

HDPE and recycled PET bottles have very different surface energy — the same adhesive will not hold both.

Release liner 06

Release liner

Not packaging waste — a precision part. It sets die-cut depth, dispensing speed and whether the label lifts at 300 packs a minute.

What goes wrong

Glassine absorbs humidity in a South China summer and drifts dimensionally; PET liner is the fix for tight registration.
